Olurotimi John Badero is a Nigerian-American physician; Interventional cardiologist and interventional nephrologist who has been recognized as the world’s first and only fully qualified cardio-nephrologist (heart and kidney specialist).
The seventh of nine children, he was born in Lagos, Nigeria, to parents of humble origins. He was educated in Nigeria and after graduating in medicine from Obafemi Awolowo University. He worked at Isolo General Hospital in Lagos to fulfill his one-year service requirement with the National Youth Service Corps. After that, he moved to the United States where he completed three years of internal medicine residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
He did his residency at the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center and earned his fellowship in Nephrology and Hypertension from Emory University School of Medicine. Badero returned to SUNY Downstate to complete a three-year training in cardiovascular medicine. Subsequently, he attended the Yale School of Medicine where he obtained a scholarship in invasive and interventional cardiology and another in peripheral vascular intervention. Badero then returned to SUNY Downstate for a year of training scholarship in Interventional Nephrology and Dialysis Access Intervention.
Dr. Badero is the Executive Director of Cardiac Renal & Vascular Associates. He is also the medical director of the Saint-Joseph hospice. He is a member of the Global Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis Therapeutics Expert Advisory Board, Merck Pharmaceuticals USA
In total, Dr Badero has completed an unprecedented 10 years of continuing postgraduate medical education and is currently board certified and consultant in:
- Internal Medicine
- Nephrology & Hypertension
- Interventional nephrology and endovascular access
- Cardiovascular medicine
- Nuclear cardiology
- Invasive and interventional cardiology.
He performed the first transradial cardiac catheterization and coronary angioplasty at CMMC Hospital Mississippi and is the author of numerous peer-reviewed journals.
For his outstanding work and medical contributions, he has been recognized in the United States, United Kingdom and Africa, including:
- Association of Black Cardiologists Scholarship for Best Cardiology Fellow in USA
- The 2014 Mississippi Health Heroes in the State of Mississippi.
- He was also named one of Mississippi’s top surgeons, Jackson.
Dr. Badero is the author of numerous peer-reviewed journals and combines his medical practice with being a minister and associate pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Vine Chapel, Mississippi. He is also an entrepreneur, educator and motivational speaker.
