Kota Kinabalu: The Society For The Sabah Heart Fund (SOSHF) sent three more children for corrective heart surgery in Kuala Lumpur, after successfully raising a total of RM150,000 through fundraising initiatives under the # campaign SaveMyHeart and its virtual 40th anniversary celebration. The three children, who suffered from congenital heart disease, are Faizal, 13, Herlena, 8, and Hisyam, 8 months. SOSHF President Datuk Eva Susau said the #SaveMyHeart campaign, which ended on January 31 this year, saw a total collection of RM112,752, which funded the three children’s surgeries that cost RM135,911.29.

“There is a drop of RM23,259.29, but it could be covered by another revenue stream from the SOSHF 40th anniversary advertising page and kind-hearted sponsors who believe in our cause. “All three patients had surgery and are now at home recovering and leading normal lives like any healthy child,” she said in a statement, while expressing her gratitude to all donors. who made generous contributions. She said SOSHF sent a total of 14 patients for surgery last year, including Faizal, Herlena and Hisyam. She added that the society’s goal this year is to send more children for surgery if funds permit. As such, Eva said SOSHF is appealing for continued donations as there are also urgent cases of children in need of surgery on the waiting list.

“SOSHF will never have enough as we continuously send less fortunate children from poor families who have congenital heart disease for corrective heart surgeries, so they can live normal lives. “As society helps weed out those who are waiting, new cases are being added as babies are born daily. Statistics show that one in 100 babies is born with a hole in the heart,” she explained. She said the donations received will go towards medical expenses, travel expenses and social needs of the patient. The public can donate online to the society’s bank account at 510143112262 (Maybank). Tax exemption receipts will be issued upon receipt of the donation. The reference contact number is 0198801270. “Thank you for once again making this difference for less fortunate children with congenital heart disease,” said Eva.
