Sherry Ashby has been battling heart failure for five years and is in desperate need of a life-saving heart transplant. Communities in Ohio County and Daviess County are rallying around this special soul. A fundraiser is planned this weekend to raise awareness of the disease and help offset ongoing medical bills.
To know Sherry Ashby is to love her! Her friends and family describe her as strong, gentle, a fighter, a faithful servant and a loyal friend. She loves her family, especially her four daughters: Lindsay Hall, Kori Baker, Tara Fitzgerald and Savannah Ashby. She also loves to adore her 9 precious grandchildren. You were probably greeted by her warm smile as you entered Mrs. Fitz’s beauty bar. In every photo I see of Sherry on social media, she has a huge smile and a wonderful spirit about her. Her family and friends feel helpless watching her suffer. She needs a miracle, and there’s so much faith that God will give it to this family. A family that always gives back to the community. I look forward to the opportunity to give back and help them when needed. Not only with continued prayers, but also by participating in the fundraisers that are planned. You too can help!
Beautiful Mom and her beautiful daughters!! -Caro Lamar
Love these five gorgeous ladies! -Shirley Lindsey
The ups and downs of a mother with a critical illness are difficult to manage. She’s your mom after all. My mother battled metastatic breast cancer for over five years. Not knowing which organ or bone would be affected with each new scan. Testing each new trial drug hoping for a miracle. Living each day not knowing if you would “get the call”. It’s an emotional roller coaster. And it affects someone you love the most in this world. I don’t wish that on anyone. Although my mother succumbed to cancer in January 2014, we never lost hope. The Ashby family should never lose hope and neither should you. Hope and faith guide us every day. And, prayers!
Sherry Ashby – September 1, 2022 Health Update
“Sherry has battled heart failure for the past five years, with frequent emergency room visits during that time. This latest episode sent her to Louisville, where her defibrillator shocked her repeatedly, causing further heart damage. Her condition deteriorated and she was transferred to the University of Kentucky. She was placed on the transplant list on 9-1-22. She has received lots of love and support from her family and friends, who say she is a beautiful, loving soul. Prayers and love go out to the family of his future donor.“, shared the family on September 1, 2022 with so much hope in the air.

Sherry Ashby – September 4, 2022 Health Update
The next day, things went wrong.
“On 9/1 Mom was officially put on the transplant list and her coordinator told us that we would probably have a heart within 30 days. On 9/2, she suffered a left basal ganglia stroke. The bleeding on his brain is too deep for surgery. The pooling of blood caused swelling that led doctors to believe she was going to hernia and die, but she’s still out there fighting. We’ve seen some improvements in his numbers that indicate we may not have a hernia at all, but we don’t know until they repeat the brain scan scheduled for 4am. She lost all movement on the right side of her body and all speech. I will try to update tomorrow after the scan if I can. This suffering is heartbreaking. We were so close, mom.” Tara Fitzgerald shared on September 4, 2022

Setting up GoFundMe for Sherry
If you can’t make it to one of the upcoming fundraisers, here’s another way to help the family. The family needs donations to help pay bills they may rack up while in hospital, as she only has a disability. She has a long way to go to recover. If you would like to donate, this is a great way to support them.
PLANNED BENEFIT FOR SHERRY ASHBY
If you donate items to the silent auction, take advantage of this weekend. Please contact Kori Baker to schedule a pick up. If you want to drop them off, message Kori for the address HERE.
100% of proceeds will be used to help Sherry meet her medical needs and bills while she awaits a heart transplant at the UK’s Lexington Hospital.
GIVE BACK DAY AT LEGENDS SPORTS BAR & GRILL
“This sweet woman needs our help. She’s spent her entire life raising four amazing daughters, keeping her faith strong, giving so much to everyone around her, be it a hug or a prayer, and being a living testimony to what it’s like a good human. She is beautiful inside and out and I can say all of these things after only meeting her a handful of times. I am lucky enough to call one of his daughters a sister. And also lucky to call one or two of the other friends. She is the embodiment of grace and happiness. And we need her on this earth for much longer. And because we live in America where health care has a cost regardless of the circumstances, she needs our help. And betting on this horse will be worth it. Because I can promise you that she will never stop praying for you.– Callie Brooke Roche
We will continue to pray for Sherry and her family. His miracle is coming!
