Driver evades ban by saying he is awaiting heart transplant

A motorist caught speeding in Staffordshire has escaped a driving ban after pleading to keep his license as he is awaiting a heart transplant.

Alexandre Alfieri, 32, of Church Lane, Cheshire, admitted driving a vehicle at 101mph on the M6 Stafford on May 3, exceeding the 70mph speed limit.

He was fined £2,500, ordered to pay £90 court costs and a victim fine surcharge of £190. His license was penalized with six points which would have exceeded 12 points and led to a ban.

However, he argued on mitigating circumstances at Cannock Magistrates’ Court that it would have a serious effect on his health as he was awaiting a heart transplant and is on the active roster and would therefore have to travel when called upon. He also argued that his business required him to travel all over the country and that not having his permit would cause his business to dissolve and affect his business partner.
